Call for nomination of experts to the Scoping Meeting for the Methodology Report on Carbon Dioxide Removal Technologies and Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has issued a call for experts to participate in the Scoping Meeting for the Methodology Report on the Carbon Dioxide Removal Technologies and Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage. The IPCC Focal Point for Italy invites expressions of interest from Italian-affiliated experts to participate in the meeting.

Nominations submitted by the Focal point for Italy need to be received by Friday 5 July (midnight CEST) in order to be submitted in time to the IPCC. (Nominations need to be submitted by the Focal point to the IPCC by Friday, 19 July 2024.)
A webinar for experts in Italy to explain the scoping process and present the details of the call will take place on June 28, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. CEST.
To develop the outline for the Methodology Report on Carbon Dioxide Removal Technologies and Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage, the IPCC Task Force on National Greenhouse Gas Inventories (TFI) has called for a Scoping Meeting of experts, tentatively scheduled for the second half of October 2024. The meeting will produce a draft outline in the form of a Scoping Paper. The report will be considered by the Panel in early 2025 and finalized by 2027.
The Scoping Meeting has been organized following the request for the report from the IPCC during its 60th session, which acknowledged the need to update the 2006 Guidelines for the preparation of national inventories. The request for the report is rooted in the findings from the Working Group III contribution to the Sixth Assessment Report, highlighting the need for carbon dioxide removal technologies to balance residual emissions.
Nominated candidates should have relevant expertise about the estimation of sinks or sources from:
- Direct air carbon dioxide capture and storage (DACCS)
- Bioenergy carbon capture and storage 3. Carbon dioxide capture, utilization, and storage
- Concrete carbonation
- Enhanced weathering
- Ocean alkalinity enhancement
- Blue carbon management in coastal wetlands
- Soil carbon sequestration in crop and grasslands
- Peatland and coastal wetland restoration
- Biochar
- Ocean fertilization
- Wastewater treatment/ wastewater alkalinity
- Forestry
- Other carbon dioxide removal technologies not specified above
With respect to carbon capture, utilization, and storage expertise, candidates should have expertise in relation to the estimation of sources or sinks from:
- Carbon dioxide capture
- Carbon dioxide transport
- Carbon dioxide injection
- Carbon dioxide storage
- Carbon dioxide use:
- Enhanced oil, gas, coal bed methane recovery
- Production of chemicals
- Production of other products
How to apply
