The IPCC Secretariat has issued a call for nominations of experts to contribute to the writing of the IPCC Special Report on Climate Change and Cities, as coordinating authors, lead authors, and review editors. See here for information about the process to prepare IPCC reports.
The outline for the report was agreed upon during the IPCC Sixty-first Session in Sofia, Bulgaria, held in August 2024. Selected coordinating lead authors and lead authors will be responsible for the drafting and revision of the report chapters, taking into account experts and government feedback, and will be asked to attend four in-person meetings, as well as multiple online meetings, during the period 2025-2026. A group of authors will also draft and revise the report’s Summary for Policymakers. Review editors will be attending two authors’ meetings in 2026.
Nominated candidates should have relevant expertise and will be selected by the Sixth Assessment Report Working Group I, II, and III Bureau to reflect the wide range of expertise covered by the report outline, including representatives from academia, practitioners, and decision-makers. The Bureau is committed to ensuring geographical and gender representation, as well as a good balance between previous IPCC authors and authors without experience.
