*Note for Italian speakers: Poiché tutti i lavori riguardanti i Report dell’IPCC si svolgono in lingua inglese, tutte le comunicazioni ufficiali dell’IPCC Focal Point per l’Italia relative all’Expert Review saranno in lingua inglese.

The authors of the IPCC Special Report on Climate Change and Cities have been preparing the First Order Draft (FOD) of the report, which will be available for expert review from 17 October to 12 December 2025 (midnight GMT +1).

The Expert Review of the FOD is a key element of the IPCC assessment process, designed to ensure that the report provides a balanced and comprehensive assessment of the latest scientific findings. In line with IPCC Procedures, the review process is objective, open, and transparent, promoting broad participation from independent experts across disciplines, regions, and perspectives to capture a wide range of views and expertise.

All those previously nominated for any role in the Special Report by National Focal Points, governments and observer organizations, but not selected, are encouraged to participate. All experts with knowledge relevant to the topics addressed in the Special Report are also encouraged to participate.

An online registration system is now open for prospective expert reviewers on the IPCC website

Registration will close on 30 November 2025 (midnight GMT +1).

Additional information on the role of Expert Reviewer can be found in Annex 1 of Appendix A to the Principles Governing IPCC Work, along with an information note explaining the Expert Review process. For any questions regarding the process, please contact the IPCC Working Group II Technical Support Unit (TSU) at media@ipccwg2.org.
